“A strange season” opens today! Celebrate the first games of the 21-22 NHL season with these hockey-themed mixed drinks.
BLUE LIGHTNING (found at The Drink Kings):
1/3 ounce blue curacao
1/3 ounce Southern Comfort
1/3 ounce bourbon
3 ounces lime juice
2 ounces simple syrup
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, shake, and strain. Serve on the rocks in a highball glass.
MAPLE LEAF (found at AllRecipes):
1/4 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 ounce maple syrup
2 lime wedges
2 ounces Canadian whiskey
3 ounces club soda
Squeeze one of the lime wedges. Put its juice in a shaker with the blueberries and syrup. Muddle, then add the whiskey and ice. Shake and strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Top with club soda and garnish with second lime wedge. (See Difford’s Guide for an alternate “Maple Leaf” recipe with no blueberries.)
CRANBERRY ZAMBONI (found at Drink Lab):
1/2 ounce cranberry vodka
1/2 ounce raspberry liqueur
Combine ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a shot glass.
HOCKEY STICK (found at A Year Of Cocktails):
1 1/2 ounces honey whiskey
3 ounces orange juice
1/2 ounce lemon juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass with ice cubes in it. Note: This drink was not concocted by a puck fan, but by someone with a crush on the stick-wielding Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles character “Casey Jones”!
PENALTY SHOT (found at On The Job Mom):
1/4 ounce blue curaçao
1 gram cinnamon
1/4 ounce gin
1/4 ounce tequila
1/4 ounce vodka (source recipe recommends citrus flavored)
Setting curaçao aside, combine all other ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a frosty shot glass and float the curaçao on top.

6 ounces Vernor’s ginger ale
1 or 2 ounces cinnamon schnapps

1 ounce bourbon
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 ounce simple syrup
