Denver has a reputation as a mellow place, but if you had to pick one word to describe Avs fans? Testy. (Heh, heh.) As of last week, they’ve got a new reason to go nuts (heh, heh): On October 22, the club’s home rink was renamed from the Pepsi Center to Ball Arena.
Thinking of Colorado’s Hall-of-Famer GM, friend of the blog Randall points out the Avs will be “playing at the Ball under Sakic” (heh, heh), which certainly sounds like a sensitive position to be in. (Heh, heh.)
Though the season won’t start until January at the earliest, Colorado is already widely regarded as a favorite for the 2021 championship. And really, what better place for the Cup than right there at the Ball? (Heh, heh.)
When they do finally open the ol’ barn doors (heh, heh), here’s hoping they do it right: by honoring Ron Tugnutt (heh, heh) (Quebec Nordiques 1987-92). Perhaps with a reading from Balzac.
Good times, good times.
